Nyack Has A Skate Shop

As most of you may know, Nyack will soon have it's very own skatepark, thanks mainly to the efforts of Sarah Anderson who spearheaded the movement.  However, what you may not know yet, is that Nyack now has it's very own skate shop.   Alumni Skateshop at 112 Main Street in Nyack

Owners J.P. and Jimi Turco recently took over the retail space (next door to Sign of the Times) and transformed it into a hip skate shop offering all the most popular boards and apparel.  Some of the brands they sell include Real, Girl, Krooked, 5Boro, Welcome, and Baker skateboards.  And some cool apparel from Thrasher, Vans, Huff, Magenta, Grizzly, and more.

Both of the owners come from a skateboard background, with J.P. having been a sponsored skater when he was younger and in the skating industry for over 25 years.  They both bring a passion for skating and creative/business experience that will surely make this project successful.

Skating popularity has seen some ups and downs over the past 40 years or so, however, according to J.P. there has been a steady upward trend with new generations taking the sport and lifestyle to new heights now and well into the future.

It's been a few decades since I was doing 360's (skaters will know what that means), but now I have two little kids ages 4 and 6 who will hopefully come of age just in time for the new skatepark .....and now....the new skateshop.

Alumni skateshop will be having a grand opening store launch party this Friday the 13th at the Brickhouse in Nyack (20 South Broadway) with four bands scheduled to rock out including Tournament, Twin Strike, Full Scale Riot, and The Village Psychic.  In addition, DJ's Mike Nouveau and Luka Son of Wolf will be pumping out the beats.  There will also be a party bus coming up from Montana's Trail House in Brooklyn....leaving Brooklyn at 7pm and returning at 3am.

Let's all wish Alumni Skateshop in Nyack much success.
