Nyack will be hosting their third annual African American Parade on Saturday, May the 14th beginning at 2pm. The parade starts at North Midland Avenue and Fifth Avenue, at the old Nyack High School field across from Nyack Hospital. The theme for this year's parade is UNITY, PEACE, AND HARMONY. Nyack NAACP President Francis Pratt, and Everett Swan, recipient of the Honorary Buffalo Soldier Award, are the Grand Marshals for the parade. Musical entertainment featured in the parade includes the award-winning East Ramapo Marching Band (a stellar group of young musicians and always a joy to watch!) and JAMCCAR Steel Band. Marchers in the parade include the 2011 Golden Gloves Champion Max Tassy (from Nyack!), Nyack's Chelsea Hook & Ladder/Jackson Hose Fire Department, The Buffalo Soldiers of West Point, and two professional football players: Twin brothers Devin (Patriots) and Jason (Titans) McCourty, who were born in Nanuet. The parade ends at the Memorial Park in Nyack, on the banks of the Hudson River. Post-parade festivities will continue there and include poetry, dance, music, crafts, food by local vendors, and a fashion show! Information will also be available by several community service groups. For more information on this event, please contact Mary White, villageclerk@nyack-ny.gov 845-358-0548, Ext. 545. If you want to be a vendor at this event, please contact Louise Parker 845-353-0034 or Daniel Jean-Gilles 845-358-1324. What a wonderful day and celebration in Nyack!
