The female peregrine falcon has returned on February 26th to join her mate who has been waiting patiently for the past month atop the Tappan Zee Bridge in Nyack. Falcons mate for life and return to the same nest each year. The peregrine falcon is the fastest animal on earth and can reach speeds of 200 mph in a hunting dive. The larger female will lay 3-4 eggs later in March and the chicks will hatch approximately 30 days later. Once almost extinct due to DDT pesticide use, peregrine falcons have made a remarkable comeback and can be seen nesting on skyscrapers and bridges throughout the New York area. A live feed cam has been placed outside the nest so you can view the magnificent birds at any time. The link is;Image title

What fun it is to observe these magnificent birds of prey as they prepare to bring another generation into this world.
