John Murphy to Receive Award in Tappan

      On Friday, April 13, Rockland County legislator and all-around good guy John A. Murphy will receive the first Horatio N. Powers Award, given by Christ Episcopal Church, Sparkill.  The award is given to those who achieve against the odds, and Mr. Murphy will be honored specifically for his exemplary work on behalf of the disabled and developmentally challenged in Rockland County.  The place: the Old '76 House in Tappan, starting at 6 for cocktails, 7 for dinner and award presentation, and 9 to 11 for a silent auction.    Tickets are $75, and may be reserved on line at christchurch-sparkill.org.
