Its All Downhill From Here

One of the advantages of living in Rockland County is that getting to good skiing is pretty easy. There are several smaller areas within an hour's drive of the county. The best of these is Mountain Creek in Vernon, New Jersey, which combines snow making and long enough runs to create a great time. Even closer are Sterling Forest and Mount Peter, both good for novices and intermediate skiers. A couple of hours' drive will get you to Hunter Mountain and Windham in the Catskills. Windham is my choice, mainly because it doesn't have the crowds that Hunter usually has. Four plus hours will bring you to Vermont. Mount Snow and Killington, the Beast of the East. Of course, if your preference is cross country skiing, there is plenty of opportunity right here in Rockland, where one fifth of the county is devoted to parkland. It's all good!
