As the days grow shorter, it’s time for fall planting. This is a great time to reseed or plant a new lawn as grass grows best on cool nights with warm days. It is also the time to get your tulip,
I Promise Summer Is Coming
FROST VALLEY SUMMER CAMP OPEN HOUSE, TUESDAY, MARCH 3, 6:30 PM
While it feels like we will never see green for a very long time, I promise it's coming. With the return of Spring the streets of the Nyacks won't be spattered with mounds of snow. And soon after, summer will be upon us. And for those of us with children, planning summer vacations and activities is now. So if you are looking for a summer camp where your children are nurtured and dare to be and do --- come tomorrow:
Tuesday, March 3 to a Frost Valley YMCA Open House being held at Nyack Center.
Both of my children have attended the Frost Valley YMCA and are practically lifetime campers. They long for their weeks away in the Catskill mountains to see the return of friends both campers and staff alike. They've learned to be more independent, to advocate for themselves and others, and have the opportunity to recreate themselves and be whoever they like......knowing it all stays at camp. Both see their camp friends throughout the school year and invite each other to important celebrations (birthdays, bar mitzvah's, sweet 16's). They've made lifelong friends.
My eldest has attended both the Adventure Camp and the residential summer camp. I remember when he spent his first summer away. He had no idea what he was up for and he was a little nervous. The next year he wasn't quite sure camp was for him so we went up and visited Dan Weir At the time, Dan was the head of the HIrd Camp for 7-12 year olds. He addressed every concern of my son's and then some. He took the time to tour the entire camp with my son, show him where he would be sleeping, introduced him to the Chef and promised to send my son the menu ahead of time. I was so impressed with the care Dan gave to attending to my son's needs. He even sent a picture of my son with new friends after the first day of camp that year. My son's love for camp grew from there and now it's an integral part of his life.
My youngest has attended the residential summer camp, Farm Camp, and all of the equestrian programs. Farm Camp was the perfect introduction for my then just turned 8 year old. She loved animals and I loved that it was a smaller camp. She moved on to Mustang Village -- seems all 9 year olds like horses, and she has attended East Valley Ranch since it opened. Her favorite is the East Valley Ranch all girl, all horses, all day program. The bond she creates with the girls and the horses each year renew her. She aspires to be a Junior Counselor one day.
I can't say enough about Frost Valley --- they are dedicated to continual training of their staff and the growth of campers and staff alike. I can say though that the green is coming and soon it will be.....Suddenly Summer! (Which is the name of a song writen by South Nyack singer songwriter and friend Dan Cohen). And BTW, if you want a personal recommendation -- call me at 917-749-0505.
