Has Spring Really Sprung
Dated: March 22 2015
Although Spring officially sprung when it was scheduled to, the winter wouldn't quit and so, in Nyack and elsewhere, we were treated to a small snow storm instead. This event used to be quite unusual, however, now these types of events seem to be the norm. In any event- it is time to unearth your gardening gloves, to excavate your trowels and spades, dust off your dibbles and start thinking about your garden- or someone else's. Thinking and planning is perfect right now as it is still too cold, really, to actually get out there and start digging. All of this planning and thinking though can really get you in the mood, it can really get your creative garden juices flowing. I find that not only is looking at gardening magazines and perusing home beauty magazines relaxing and a pleasant way to while away some time- when I have the spare moment or two, but it also inspires me during this kind of crazy transitional time of year. It gives me hope! And I can still cozy up staying warm at home in Nyack,NY, while at the same time feeling as if I am making a little bit of progress for the coming spring!
If your gardening goes beyond flowers and shrubs and you dabble in vegetables- keep in mind PAR (that's Plant A Row for you gardening neophytes) and spread the wealth. Local Soup Kitchens (like Soup Angels right here in Nyack) really rely on the kindly given donations of fresh, locally grown (maybe even organic!) vegetables for some of the recipies for their spring and summer menus. So.... here's to a much needed and happy spring!
