How many times have you been told to not judge a book by its cover?  Well if you were to pass the new 59 Deli & Mart at 21 Route 59 you would think it was just another convenient store and deli, however, let me tell you... it's really an authentic Halal food establishment in disguise.

Don't be fooled by the hookah pipes and basic highway stop type items for sale....because at the rear of the store you'll find a truly genuine family run kitchen cooking up some serious traditional Middle Eastern foods including falafel and chicken over rice.

The owner, Jay, came to this country 9 years ago and now he and his wife and his two sisters and son in law are all involved in this new family business.  They all work together to serve up some of the same foods they grew up with in their culture.   And they do it with very friendly  service.

They like to keep it simple....fresh ingredients, prepared on the spot....it's homemade, amazingly good food.    It's also very important that they keep it real.  In fact the women choose to keep their traditional head covering.  This speaks volumes about how much they care about keeping their traditions alive....not only in the way they present themselves and their establisment, but more importantly in how they prepare the food.

In addition to their traditional dishes, their extensive menu also includes many healthy options like fresh juices ...including their Green Dream (celery, spinach, cucumber, kale , apple and lemon),  yummy smoothies like their Protein High (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, bananas and agave nectar), customized salads, creative breakfast omeletes and wraps, vegetarian delights like their Avocado Supreme ( avocado, fresh mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, spinach, basil, mushrooms and taziki sauce and pita bread), delicious paninis like their Italiano (grilled chicken, roasted peppers, pesto, and fresh mozzarella), any many more options.

So if you want real, authentic Halal food and more, do yourself a favor and give them a try.  I'm confident that you'll be pleasantly surprised.  Oh yeah...and their prices are very reasonable!   I recently picked up a chicken and rice dish for my wife for around $7.95.....there was so much food, she'll probably get three meals out of it.

And because everything is made fresh....with love....it will take a little while to prepare, so it might be a good idea to call ahead.   Their number is 845-643-8181.

They're open from 6am to 11pm everyday.
