Guided Walks at Nyack Beach Park

Now, I've lived in Rockland for quite a while, but just recently was introduced to this website: www.rocklandsteps.org/walks where you can get information on a series of guided walks through several Rockland County Parks.

For those who want to stick close to Nyack, yet learn something about the local parks, there are walks scheduled for Buttermilk Falls Park in Central Nyack, Mountainview Nature Park in Central Nyack, Clausland Mountain Park in Upper Grandview, as well as Rockland Lake State Park and Nyack Beach State Park.

For those a little more adventurous, there are walks in the Sloatsburg, Garnerville, Thiells, and New City area parks plus, I'm sure there are some I'm forgetting about.  It's all on the website. You need to register for the walks, but they are led by a docent familiar with the trail, the park, and with its history.

The walks are rated 1-, 2-, or 3-sneaker walks, depending on the level of difficulty or exertion required. Exploring unfamiliar parkland with a knowledgeable docent will relieve any apprehension of venturing out in the parks on your own. And what a great way to enjoy Rockland's beautiful natural surroundings while meeting other County residents and getting a little physical activity!

Many of the walks are also thematic walks such as: Dog walk, kid-focused, Father's Day Challenge, Geocaching, Bird Watching, etc. All walks are free and pre-registration is recommended. All walks take place rain or shine. Walkers meet in the park parking lot unless otherwise noted on the website.

Other instructions and information is available on the website, as well as suggestions for a healthier lifestyle and dealing with health issues like Diabetes, Asthma, and other chronic diseases.
