FOOD DAY IN NYACK

   Thursday October 24 is Food Day! Nyack is participating in a nonprofit nationwide celebration to promote healthy, affordable, and sustainable food. This a first for the community of Nyack and will begin at 8am at the Nyack Center with an eating meditation, led by Dina Kushnir of Zohar BodyMind Healing.  If you are not familiar with eating meditation… it is to eat slowly small bites of food and silently contemplate its origins. For instance, think about what was involved in the journey from the farm to your table and the way it moves through your body. The day-long event will include Nyack’s famers’ market from 8am -2pm in the Main Street parking lot, food drives, cooking demos. There will also be presentations on raising backyard chickens, container gardens and nutritious mindful eating practices. There will be Fun Food Story Time at the Nyack Library for Preschoolers at 11am.   The day’s events will conclude at the Nyack Center at 7:30pm, with the film “A Place at the Table.” The film depicts the stories of three families struggling to put good food on the family table, they actually represent some 50 million Americans, including 17 million children, who do not make enough to feed themselves adequately. It also looks into ways to solve this problem.
