Drive In Movies Near Nyack

Get yourself into Retro Mode and check out a drive-in this summer. If you aren't lucky enough to be old enough to remember the originals, you can still get the full experience at several venues that are a short drive from Nyack. They aren't showing the 1950s and 60s films (sigh) but you can get a kick out of current releases through your windshield....and walk to the snack bar for a variety of eats they don't serve at the indoor theaters.
Generally, you can see a double-feature, with one film running right after the other, and sound piped through your car radio. Usually you can sit at tables by the snack bar if you want an out-of-car experience.
Here are the three closest to Rockland County (sadly, we lost our local drive-ins years ago)....
The closest to Rockland is the Warwick Drive-In in Orange County. Billed as "old-school, cash only," it has three screens, and homemade food at the snack bar. Next, with a travel time of about one and a quarter hours, is the Overlook Drive-In in Poughkeepsie. Credit cards are accepted, and a big menu including foot-long hot dogs is available at the snack bar.Furthest afield is the Hyde Park Drive-In, about an hour and a half from Nyack. This one opened in 1950, but for today's viewers, there's an 82-foot screen.
