Ding Dong House For Sale
Dated: October 3 2011
This has been a very busy week for local real estate. The area saw 10 new listings hit the market. And included in those 10 properties is our featured home: the Ding Dong House in Snedens Landing.
As one of Sneden's Landing's most iconic residences, this historic home was originally built in 1750 and is rich in history—it was home to many luminaries in the art, theater, literature and dance world. Most notably? Producer/director/choreographer Jerome Robbins (West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof), composer/conductor Aaron Copland (Appalachian Spring, Billy the Kid, Rodeo, and Fanfare for the Common Man), Super Man's squeeze and actress Margot Kidder, and, for only a year in 1998, Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke. The home apparently got the name "The Ding Dong House" because of a large bell that hung over the entrance.
The best news for the market was the 13 properties that went under contract and 8 properties title transfer. That is some serious activity.
From these pending sales, the average days on the market was 225. And for the closed deals, the average was 202 days on the market and selling for an average of 85% of original list prices.
So, despite all the economic uncertainty, overall it was a strong week for the local housing market.
