Colonial Day in Tappan

On Saturday, September 24, the Tappantown Historical Society will hold its annual Colonial Day on the grounds of the DeWint House Masonic Shrine. Taking place from noon to four in the afternoon, Colonial Day has become the premier event in Tappan. Hundreds of children, parents and other visitors wander the grounds located at the corner of Oak Tree Road and Livingston in Tappan and experience a trip back in time. Revolutionary soldiers march and drill, colonists in period dress dance to olden tunes, a blacksmith hammers, and a spinner spins. There are cooking demonstrations and juggling and candle making- always a favorite. Hand stitched quilts flap in the breeze, farm animals are there for the petting, and it's an altogether neat way to spend a Fall afternoon.
