Casino Coming To Woodbury In Orange County

Apparently there are companies out of Maryland and Pennsylvania that are interested in land situated between Route 17 and the Thruway to build a Las Vegas-style Casino with hotel, conference center and high end restaurants.

The companies from Maryland and Pennsylvania need the Village's cooperation in issuing letters stating that this proposal would be considered. The developers must submit these letters to the New York Gaming Commission's by April 1st. The Woodbury Village Board must make its decision at its March 13 meeting,
A benefit would be that ten percent of the casino's "off the top" revenues would be split between Orange County and Woodbury, with the Village of Woodbury receiving 3.25 percent of the cut, generating enough money to significantly lower residential property taxes.  Though it sounds good in theory, how much of that money would actually filter down to the residents to assist in lowering their property taxes.
