Car dealership returns to Nyack

In 1954, local car dealer, Jack Kurland, built the glass "fish bowl" showroom at 28 Route 59 for his Cadillac and Oldsmobile dealership.   He successfully ran his business there until 1974 until he moved his dealership to Nanuet.

Between 1974-1977 there were a few other car dealerships at that location, as well as a fruit and vegetable market (see photo)

In 1978, Al Blackwell purchased the property from Lillian and Jack Kurland and opened "World of Wheels".  Mr. Blackwell sold cars and recreational vehicles (RV's) successfully at the property until 1994 when he moved his business to Florida

After World of Wheels, Mr. Blackwell leased the property to Kia Motors (Nissan) for about five years until they sold their dealership.   After that, the property was leased again to another car dealership for several more years.  But once they were gone, the property sat vacant for seveal more years.

Needing to pay the taxes and expenses, Mr. Blackwell didn't have many options but to take the only offer that was available.  And the only tenant at that time was the infamous adult bookstore. And we all know how that went.  Opposition from village residents including Stephen Baldwin was too strong, and after opening for only one day, the bookstore shut its doors for good.

After that controversial tenancy, the property sat vacant for several more years until a local business man thought it would be a great spot for an old fashioned burger hop style restaurant.  Well, that may have been a good idea, but the business plan didn't work and soon the Nyack Burger Hop had to close its doors as well.

The property sat vacant again for two more years until this year when Seth Marks of Palisades Auto Sales, a local car dealer from down the road, purchased the property.  Seth has been running his successful car dealership at the corner of Route 59 in West Nyack near the Palisades Mall for over a decade now, so it was time for him to expand and take his business to another level.  Seth plans on renovating the glass building and returning the showroom to what it was originally built to be.....a stage for quality (pre-owned) automobiles.  He plans on displaying exotic cars, motorcycles and SUV's as well.

In addition to offering financing and warranties, Seth can locate a car for you, and will even buy your vehicle from you if needed.  He also plans on offering repairs on site.

Seth has built a loyal following over the years and has many repeat clients.  He's a local guy and has built a reputation for standing behind the cars he sells.

This property needed someone to breath new life into it, and Seth Marks is the perfect guy for the job.  Who knows....maybe he'll find a 1959 Cadillac to display.

Much success to Seth Marks and Palisades Auto Sales.
