Birds At Tappan House Part Two

If a nesting robin over our front door wasn't enough, a mallard decided to nest in the back, just above our driveway.  I was pruning some shrubs last week, and nearly stepped on the duck, who was nestled next to a tree.  (Yes, there's a duck in the picture- just to the bottom left of the tree, almost in the center of the photo.)  It never moved, and was almost invisible from more than a couple of feet away.  I emailed my birder friend, and he responded that ducks don't nest near water because of predators, but will lead her chicks (ducklings?) there after they hatch.  The results?  Next post.
