Beware The Illusion

A "new" company, named HomeLight, is promising to connect Real Estate buyers and sellers with the "top agents" in the areas where they are looking. It could be Nyack, New City, Stony Point, or just about anywhere. What they DON'T mention is that for the privilege of being presented as a "top agent," those agents are giving up 25% of their commission. SO, are you getting the "top agents" or just those who are desperate enough for business to give up their hard-earned money? And, think about it. If they are willing to give up their OWN money, how quickly will they be willing to give up part of yours? These "top agents" are not in HomeLight's category based on history -- they are paying for the privilege. 

Serious agents who work full time at providing excellent service and support won't need companies like HomeLight in order to grow their business. They are doing it one referral after another. They know how to build a good list of recommendations for a tried and tested team of multiple professionals (from mortgage to home inspection to legal support) to suggest to you so that the process of buying and selling is as easy and as seamless as possible. 

So, beware the slick TV commercials about some service providing you a free list of "top agents" in your area. That list may not be worth worth anything and could cost you dearly.
