Pop quiz for fans of Old Nyack ….how many of these stores do you remember? Peterzells….Zabriskis….Newberrys Five and Ten…. The original Woolworth store…. The Eagle (and its huge sidewalk clock)…. The Bluebird Shop….Herbets Shoes….Glynns Shoes….The Army/Navy Store….The Market Fair….Luleich’s Bakery…. Twig (before they added the ‘s)….Burns Hardware….feel free to add to this if you’re old enough to remember! My Mom’s 92 and she tells me that when she was a kid everyone came to Nyack to buy shoes. It was more or less the Shoe Capital of Rockland. After the malls came, things were not looking so good for Nyack,. Then it had a major resurgence as a sort of Antiques Capital and went on to greater glory. These days, sometimes it seems more like the Food Court of Rockland!
