Throughout New York State. including all the locations in Rockland from Palisades to Tomkins Cove, Nyack to Suffern, resident homeowners need to apply to the NYS Taxation Department for their 2014 STAR exemption.  The deadline is December 31, 2013 and that is 24 days from now.

This is part of a new initiative to protect New Yorkers against inappropriate or fraudulent STAR exemptions. Most residents received a letter from the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance in September with instructions and a STAR code.
STAR exemption is available for owner-occupied, primary residences where the combined income of resident owners and their spouses is $500,000 or less.

Senior Citizens receiving the Enhanced STAR property tax exemption are not affected by this new requirement and do not need to register.

If you haven't already registered, it is a simple process to visit www.tax.ny.gov or call 518-457-2036 to register or for more information.   Happy tax savings!!
