Autumn Leaves in Rockland County
I’m the one that doesn’t like autumn…. That chill in the air, not my thing. Wasn’t I just sitting on a beach last week? When I was a kid it meant “Back to School” oh no! Not that! And now it just reminds me how fast time flies-by. When did I get this old? Some see brilliant autumn colored leaves… I see dead leaves piling up on lawns, curbs and street corners. The lush green trees look sad and scrawny, then there’s all the work of cleaning up the mess. Landscape experts say this the time our beautiful lawns need to re-vitalize themselves, but no… they can’t because the leaves are choking out the sunlight. So out we go rakes in hand to tackle the leaves. Nothing like spending a few hours gathering them all up, stuffing them in bags or blowing them to the curb. Ah job well-done! Then you run out, do a few errands and practically drive right past your home because you can’t believe your lawn is filled with leaves! On the somewhat bright side, Weight Watchers says, you burn 153 calories for every half hour you rake. That’s about 15 potato chips! And then you remember how you had 20 chicken wings, spinach/avocado dip and a pulled pork sandwich yesterday at the game! Oh well, it’s not all bad… after all, it is the prelude to that first snowfall, now that is my thing!
