Apple picking is well underway and my favorite local place is the Orchards at Conklin in Pomona, NY.  Located on South Mountain Road, it's easily accessible via The Palisades Interstate Parkway.  If you're local, take a drive up scenic South Mountain Rd to get there.   Talk about history, this farm was established in 1712!  This weekend, the following apples are available for picking:  Cortland, Empire, Red Delicious.  Special events this weekend include a slide, Jurassic Adventure, kid's haunted house and bounce.  Weather permitting, the orchards are open from 10 am to 5 pm Saturdays and Sundays only.  They also have a specialty grocery store on the grounds which is a must visit when you are there.  You will find fresh pies, donuts, cakes and other goodies, fresh apple cider, farm fresh eggs, and a variety of other delicious foods. .  There is plenty of parking right among the orchards and you can rent picking poles.  We have already been enjoying these fresh delicious apples and you can too!
