A slice of Europe not far from Clarkstown
As a last minute vacation, my wife and I jumped in the car, left Valley Cottage, turned on Pandora, and 5 hours later were totally engulfed in French culture. We walked cobble stone streets, ate French food in wonderful sidewalk Bistros, and experienced High Holy Easter Mass, said & sung in French, in a Church few on earth can compare to. And we did the whole vacation in 4 days. Strangers in a strange land we were not! Montreal is a wonderful and close destination. The Notre Dame Basilica is a house of worship on par with St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the original Notre Dame in Paris. Though I haven’t visited every Cathedral on earth, it could easily be second in grandeur and beauty only to Vatican itself. The food, museums, music, underground, and Bio-Sphere set in the old ’76 Olympics pavilion are all so very outstanding. There is also train service if you don’t want to drive. There certainly is no need for a car once you have arrived, as everything is walking distance or available via the very user friendly subway (Metro). Maybe the most unbelievable treat of all may be the cup cakes from Les Glaceures off Rue De Notre Dame.
