Helen Hayes a long time resident of Nyack in Rockland County will receive her own stamp later in the month. Ceremonies in Washinton D.C. and in West Havestraw will be held to honor the memory of Helen Hayes and the new stamp. Helen Hayes MacArthur lived from 1932 until her death in 1993 in a riverfront mansion on North Broadway in Nyack that she called Pretty Penny. The Postal Service reviews roughly 50,000 applications each year for people who have been suggested to be the subject of a commemorative stamp. Every year up to 20 people are chosen are chosen. This year Hayes is joining President Ronald Reagan,Tito Puente, Mark Twain, actor Gregory Peck, Carlos Gardel,and Carmen Miranda, among others.
