I'm very proud and grateful to live in Nyack, a community that embraces the gifts that come with diversity. A community that will stand together and that will cry together and, I pray, take action to make a change together. In the aftermath of the massacre in the Gay Nightclub in Orlando, it was heart-warming and comforting to witness how Nyack's community, already displaying support for "Gay Pride Month", really stepped up its show of support. Pride flags, large and small, could be seen in the windows of so many businesses. People gathered for vigils or just to share their feelings about the unthinkable horror of 49 lives lost at the hands of one very sick individual. The one thing everyone agreed upon is that moments of silence, while very sensitive and reflective, do not make a difference. Voices are what is needed, loud voices that will not be silenced until common sense changes are made to prevent these senseless, avoidable events form being repeated. Nyack's community has a huge heart. It is a wonderful place to live and raise conscious children.
