How Much Will This Noreaster Cost Nyack
As we brace for a second major storm in a week my mind often wonders “what will this really cost the tax payers and business owners of Nyack”. This storm has brought such destruction that many Nyack residents and some businesses are still without power. Electrical and tree clearing crews have rallied from many states to help get us back on line. That kind of man power doesn’t come cheap. But who is really footing the bill? After numerous searches on the web, I can only conclude that nobody really knows! The Power Company and New York state are paying the lions share, but that really just comes out of our pockets in the end. The cost of municipal snow removal is mostly built into the budget already. Plows are owned, salt was bought, and overtime was supposedly figured in. This should translate into no additional tax burden. One can only hope. The small business owner has to deal with snow removal costs as well. There is also lost business during the actual snow fall. For some businesses, especially restaurants, this just can’t be made up. For many others, it will just happen on another day, making it deferred rather than lost revenue. Many types of business now run as efficiently from home as in the office thanks to computers and the internet.
The bottom line is snow is very expensive to some residents and just an inconvenience to most.
