Brickhouse In Nyack Is Awesome

Ok...I have to confess...... I originally left Nyack last night to have dinner at the Yardhouse at the Palisades Mall thinking it was just too cold to walk around Nyack.   However, after circling the mall parking lot a few times for a spot, parking about a mile away, fighting the massive mall crowds, and then being told that there was a 1.5 hour wait to be seated, my friends and I decided to head back to Nyack.  Best decision ever!

We decided to check out the Brickhouse in Nyack.  I had been a few times for lunch, but I had never experienced the night scene.  Being a Dad with two small children, I don't get out much, however, last night was a "boys night out" so we were looking for a cool, hip, lounge scene where one can sip some good wine and not feel like we were in the suburbs or a mall (what was I thinking?)  Well....we got it at The Brickhouse in Nyack.

I was so impressed with the vibe.....the pool table in the corner, the beautiful lighting, the artsy-hipster decor, and the overall great open space feel.  Right away we were greeted by Victor....everybody's friend.  He made us feel very welcome and found us a great table.  They had "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" up on the big screen which added a great vintage, retro feel to the night.   This is a great idea to have movies showing while you're hanging out....they even have a "Bad Movie Night" where you can laugh at some of the worst movies of all time.

The menu was well rounded with some great small plate options that included smoked sesame wings, a hummus platter, and fried pickles (supposedly they're super yummy).  In addition, they offer some popular barbeque options that include tasty ribs, pulled pork and brisket sandwiches.  And last but not least, they have mouth watering, nice and crispy brick oven pizzas with unique toppings like arugula and prosciutto, fig and goat cheese, and caramelized onions and sausage.  The wine and craft beer options were also very impressive.  They have a nice Cab/Merlot blend I recommend.

All in all, I was really happy to see that there was a vibrant crowd enjoying themselves in our quaint little village.   Don't get me wrong, Nyack has many great restaurants, and many of them get some pretty good crowds, however, the Brickhouse had a different feel.  First off it's very roomy with several different areas to hang, but more importantly (at least for me and I would think people of a ...ahem......a certain age) it has more of a mature, artsy, sophisticated, laid back scene.  The music isn't too loud and you can actually have a conversation without losing your voice.  It's even comfortable for families.

So, if you want to avoid the crazy crowds and touristy chain food establishments, and want that nyc vibe, then don't make the same mistake I did.....don't bother with the mega mall, just head over to Nyack.....and chill out at the Brickhouse.  Maybe I'll see you there....If I can find a babysitter.
